Ingredients

  • 1 bag (10-12 ounces) tortilla chips (thick-cut recommended)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup pickled jalapeño slices, plus more for serving
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo

Method

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  3. Add the taco seasoning and water to the beef, simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Spread half of the tortilla chips in a single layer on the air fryer basket or tray.
  5. Spread refried beans evenly over the chips.
  6. Sprinkle half of the cooked seasoned beef over the beans.
  7. Top with half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
  8. Add pickled jalapeño slices and chopped red onion evenly.
  9. Add the remaining tortilla chips on top and repeat layering with beef, cheese, jalapeños, and onions.
  10. Place the loaded basket in the air fryer and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and chips are crispy.
  11. Remove from the air fryer carefully and sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro on top.
  12. Serve immediately with optional toppings like sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and pico de gallo.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, avoid overcrowding the chips in the air fryer basket. You can customize the toppings to your liking, and leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the air fryer for best results.
