Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder, divided
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, divided
  • 2 teaspoons paprika, divided
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning, divided
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay® seasoning, divided
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
  • 1 lemon, juiced, divided
  • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Set your oven to heat at 385°F (196°C).
  2. Take the cabbage, remove the core, and slice six 2-inch cuts downward about a quarter of the way through.
  3. Rub the cabbage thoroughly with olive oil.
  4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, and chicken bouillon over the cabbage.
  5. Squeeze half the lemon juice onto the cabbage and massage the spices into it for full coverage.
  6. Place 3 tablespoons of butter inside the center of the cabbage and wrap it securely with two layers of foil.
  7. Put the wrapped cabbage on a baking tray and bake it for 1 hour.
  8. While baking, melt the remaining butter and combine it with the remaining 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, and the rest of the lemon juice; set this flavored butter aside.
  9. After the first hour, take the cabbage out and drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons of the flavored butter on top.
  10. Wrap the cabbage back in the foil tightly and return it to the oven for another 60 minutes.
  11. Once done, let the cabbage rest for 5 to 10 minutes before unwrapping.
  12. Season the cabbage with salt and black pepper to your taste and serve it with the leftover butter mixture for dipping if you like.

Notes

  • For a richer taste, consider adding cooked seafood or sausage alongside the cabbage next time. Store leftovers wrapped in foil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently.
