Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 pound lean ground beef

Method

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients together.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the cabbage, diced tomatoes with their juice, sliced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook gently over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture just starts to simmer.
  3. Next, place the ground beef evenly over the top of the cabbage mixture. Cover the pot and let it cook on low, stirring now and then, until the cabbage is tender and the ground beef is fully cooked, about 45 minutes.
  4. Once everything is cooked through and flavors have melded, serve it warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Avoid pre-cooking and draining the ground beef to keep the full flavor intact. Using 90/10 lean ground beef works best for this dish. This meal goes wonderfully with corn on the cob and cornbread.
