Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds about 2 medium-sized potatoes ($0.60)
  • 2 tablespoons oil ($0.06)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder ($0.01)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder ($0.06)
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt ($0.03)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper ($0.01)

Method

  1. Prep the potatoes. Peel and grate the potatoes, then add them to a large bowl and cover with cold water. Soak for at least 10 minutes, ideally 30 minutes.
  2. Drain and rinse the potatoes well to remove excess starch. Transfer to a clean lint-free kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. Pat dry and place in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add oil, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper to the shredded potatoes. Mix well to combine.
  4. Transfer the seasoned potatoes into an air fryer basket, pressing down to form an even, single layer. For extra crispiness, lightly spray the top with cooking spray.
  5. Air fry at 360°F for 14-18 minutes, or until the hash browns are crispy and golden brown.
  6. Serve hot and enjoy your crispy homemade air fryer hash browns.

Notes

  • For crispier hash browns, soak potatoes for 30 minutes and ensure thorough drying before air frying. You can also customize seasonings to taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
