Ingredients

  • 1 Ibs boneless chicken cut into small pieces
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar optional for extra stickiness
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp chili flakes optional
  • Cooked rice
  • Green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  1. Chop the chicken into bite-sized chunks ensuring they are roughly the same size.
  2. Warm the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  3. Add chicken pieces and cook them until they get a light golden color on all sides.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook briefly until fragrant, about 20 seconds.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, and rice vinegar or lemon juice.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and stir to coat evenly.
  7. Allow the sauce to simmer gently, stirring occasionally until it starts to thicken and cling to the chicken.
  8. Lower the heat and keep cooking until the sauce becomes shiny and sticky, coating the chicken perfectly.
  9. Taste the chicken and tweak seasoning by adding more honey or soy sauce if preferred.
  10. Serve warm cooked rice in bowls then spoon the sticky chicken on top.
  11. Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds to finish the dish beautifully.

Notes

  • For an extra boost of flavor, add a sprinkle of chili flakes if you like a bit of heat. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
