Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Add the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Slowly stir in the melted butter until fully incorporated and pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of this mixture into the batter and use a knife to swirl it through the cake batter.
  7. Bake for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the icing by combining the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  9. Once the cake is done baking, let it cool slightly before drizzling the icing over the warm cake.
  10. Allow the icing to set, then slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For best results, serve the cake warm after icing. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You can also add chopped nuts or raisins to the cinnamon swirl for extra texture.
